Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, demons, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could assist the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the remote area in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Seekers and Planners groups.

Audiences can anticipate learning which adventurers will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
